chemical recycling

Conversion to monomer or production of new raw materials by changing the chemical structure of a material or substance through cracking, gasification or depolymerization, excluding energy recovery and incineration.

mechanical recycling

Processing of waste material into secondary raw material or products using mechanical unit operations only and without significantly changing the chemical structure of the material. Examples include mechanical reprocessing of plastics and paper repulping.

recovered material

Plastics that have been separated, discharged or removed from the solid waste stream to be recycled or used as a substitute for new raw materials.
